New England Collaborative Data Management Curriculum

NECDMC is an instructional tool for teaching data management best practices to undergraduates, graduate students, and researchers in the health sciences, sciences, and engineering disciplines. Each of the curriculum’s six online instructional modules aligns with the U.S. National Science Foundation’s data management plan recommendations and addresses universal data management challenges. Included in the curriculum is a collection of actual research cases that provides a discipline specific context to the content of the instructional modules. These cases come from a range of research settings such as clinical research, biomedical labs, an engineering project, and a qualitative behavioral health study. Additional research cases will be added to the collection on an ongoing basis. Each of the modules can be taught as a stand-alone class or as part of a series of classes. Instructors are welcome to customize the content of the instructional modules to meet the learning needs of their students and the policies and resources at their institutions.

In terms of the techniques and technologies involved, this fourth paradigm is fundamentally distinct from the third one called computational science focusing on simulating complex phenomena or processes since the invention of computers. The massive data volume and ever increasing computing power in the twenty-first century will dramatically change the ways of doing science and scholarly communications. We believe therefore that this emerging new paradigm has profound implications to geographic information science and various applications to environment and urban systems. CyberGIS is an emerging phenomenon where geographic information systems or science (GIS) meets cyberinfrastructure for data-intensive geospatial computing. Many unsolvable problems with environmental and urban systems can be well studied using the continuously increasing geospatial data, collected through massively deployed positioning technologies, sensor networks and voluntary contributions by individuals, and ever increasing computing power of personal computers, higher performance computers, and emerging grid/cloud computing facilities. This special issue of International Journal of Geographical Information Science is seeking original unpublished papers that describe recent advances and efforts in data-intensive geospatial computing, with particular applications to environment and urban systems.

A kritériumok: A kézirat 4-8 oldal közötti terjedelmű legyen szokásos 12-es betűmérettel másfeles sortávval, 2,5-es margóval. Ezen kívül minden szerző küldjön be a kézirattal együtt egy internetes megjelenésre általa jóváhagyott arcképet, e-mail címet, beosztás/munkahely ill. foglalkozás megnevezést. A tanulmány bármilyen ábrát tartalmazhat.
So far, GIScience mainly focused on two-dimensional spatial reality (and by extension on the third spatial dimension). Many concepts and techniques for visualising and analysing space have been presented. So far, the typical functionalities of a GISystem are thus only used for visualising and analysing a real space. However, it should be possible to represent a two-dimensional conceptual space by means of a GISystem. By doing so, it should be possible to use existing sophisticated techniques for analysing two-dimensional non-spatial data. The possibilities and the relevance for using GISystems and according visualising- and analysing tools for representing, managing and querying of data in a two-dimensional conceptual time space (i.e. the triangular concept: a representation of\none-dimensional time intervals by zero-dimensional time points in a\ntwo-dimensional conceptual space i.e. the triangular concept: a representation of one-dimensional time intervals by zero-dimensional time points in a two-dimensional conceptual space) will be studied in depth in this research project. Moreover, it is interesting that time is cognitively-conceptually as well as theoretically close to the concept of space.
The Ph.D. candidate will participate in the research unit Cartography and GIS (GIScience and GISystems), Department of Geography at Ghent University (Belgium). The unit consists out of two professors and, currently, more than 10 researchers, all working in the research field of spatial and geographical information.
The position is funded for a period of 4 years (starting January 1, 2008) within a new project granted by the Research Foundation - Flanders.
Subject: Use of a GIS for the Research of a Two-Dimensional Conceptual Space;
Promoter: Prof. dr. In meeting this objective, the Secretariat of the 5th International Symposium on Digital Earth has launched a collective set of seminal activities that will help stimulate and promote the prowess of Digital Earth among a wide variety of campuses across North America and internationally. The following components comprise the comprehensive strategy to provide the necessary tools, internet architecture, and incentives for university students to actively participate over the months leading to First Annual International Digital Earth Student Competition.

Digital Earth Exchange (DEX) – A network of supercomputers, led by the Japanese Earth Simulator (the world’s largest computer) and the San Diego Supercomputer, led by the Visualization Center of San Diego State University form a backbone for the operation of multiple “geobrowsers” and the appropriate resources of large area geo-referenced data sets. Protocols and established documentation procedures are being developed in conjunction with the Electronic Cultural Atlas Initiative led by UC Berkeley and the Digital Alexandria project led by UC Santa Barbara. This Digital Earth Exchange network will function as the repository and server operations center for the performance of geobrowser tessellation engines, including NASA’s World Wind, GeoFusion GeoMatrix Toolbox, and other commercial “digital earths.” This will enable thin-client performance via the network and public access to the information and computational resources.Digital Earth Reference Model (DERM) – A reference model has been resurrected from the Federal Geospatial Data Committee and ISO communities in collaboration with the original NASA led Interagency Working Group on Digital Earth. The DERM is currently being handled by a coalition of open-system developers including the Open Geo and Open Geospatial Consortium. This standard reference model will enable researchers and students to quickly access the most advanced set of standards and protocols for development and operation of advanced technological systems and applications. The DERM coordination is being led by Dr. Charles Herring.Rules for the Scholarships & Competitions - Beginning on the 1st of November, 2006, specifications for the Competitions and Scholarships will be promulgated to a core of set of universities and their community networks who will be invited to apply for Digital Earth Scholarships in the form of selected student licenses for the Digital Earth tessellation engines (currently available for GeoFusion’s GeoMatrix Toolkit and NASA World Wind) for the university research projects. This license access, under supervision of the professors, will place valuable technical software resource tools into the hands of creative and progressive intellectual leaders among the student population. Students will be required to demonstrate either (1) advances in the performance or attributes of the 3-D tessellation engines or demonstrate an (2) application (i.e., Earth science, climate change, social, humanitarian, et cetera) portraying creativity and excellence in visualizing and communication of a thematic topic. The student demonstrations must be submitted into the Digital Earth Exchange (details on these specifications to be announced asap) by 1 April 2007 for consideration by the judges. Student winners will be notified by 1 May to arrange for travel to the 5th International Symposium on Digital Earth event in San Francisco to receive their prizes.
Coordinators for the Student Competitions and Scholarships for the ISDE5 Secretariat are Professor Nick Faust (Space Technology Hall of Fame (1993)) and Chuck Stein (Vice President of GeoFusion)."

Source: www.isde5.org

More on AGILE: www.agile-online.org
More on EuroSDR: www.eurosdr.org
More on
More on NKTH: www.nkth.gov.hu

A HUNAGI 2005 óta a DG JRC nyilvántartott SDIC partnere.

A DG JRC SDI legutóbbi (aug 14-i) HUNAGI-nak címzett levele,
http://inspire.jrc.it
http://sdi.jrc.it
http://www.espon.eu
http://www.ec-gis.org/cogi
http://projects-2006.jrc.cec.eu.int/show.gx?Object.object_id=PROJECTS000000000200D85B;
http://projects-2006.jrc.cec.eu.int/show.gx?Object.object_id=PROJECTS000000000200EEB6;RFGhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11057250218550492543noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-26643889.post-1155648281103445932006-08-15T15:23:00.000+02:002006-08-15T15:36:53.816+02:00Konferencia a térinformatika elméleti hátterérőlA térbeli információ elmélete - Rendezvény a Melbourne-i Egyetemen

COSIT'07: Ninth International Conference on Spatial Information Theory

Időpont: 2007 szeptember 19-23
Helyszín: Mt Eliza, Melbourne, Ausztrália

Elnökök: Stephan Winter (U Melbourne), Benjamin Kuipers (U Texas)Local
Társelnökök: Matt Duckham (U Melbourne) , Lars Kulik (U Melbourne)
Doktori kollokvium vezetője: Alexander Klippel (U Melbourne)

Előzetes felhívás: itt

<a title="PDF" href="javascript:void" status="no,toolbar=no,scrollbars=yes,titlebar=no,menubar=no,resizable=yes,width=640,height=480,directories=no,location=no');"" option="com_content&do_pdf=1&id=16',">A COSIT konferenciaköteteit a Springer a Lecture Notes in Computer Science elnevezésű sorozatában adja ki.

COSIT '03: Kuhn, W., Worboys, M. and Timpf, S. Az ülés kezdetén a küldöttek megválasztották a Világűrbizottság tisztségviselőit a 2006-2007-es évekre. A hazai űrkutatás komoly elismerésként tekinthető, hogy a MŰI igazgatóját az ENSZ Világűrbizottságának első alelnökévé választották. A MŰI a HUNAGI alapító szervezete. Gratulálunk dr. Both Előd úrnak magas tisztségéhez! A dr. Lothar Beckel vezette szekcióülésen dr. Csató Éva, a FÖMI Távérzékelési Központ tudományos főmunkatársa előadást tartott erdészeti alkalmazások témakörében.
Mint arról márciusi naplóbejegyzésünkben ( http://hunagi.blogspot.com ) beszámoltunk róla, Lothar Beckel iskolai űratlasza a német mellett magyar nyelven jelent meg először Európában. A magyar változat elkészítésében közreműködő magyar szervezetek mindegyike a HUNAGI tagja.
Bővebbet a MŰI honlapján: www.hso.huRFGhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11057250218550492543noreply@blogger.com0
